TEST METHOD DEVELOPMENT
- AIRFLOW THROUGH PACKED BED -
As an engineering scientist, I had the opportunity to brainstorm and create prototypes for many of my innovative ideas. During the patent development of one of my inventions, data was needed to support said patent's claims. Along with preexisting test methods, I designed and developed a new test method, utilizing my skill set in CAD as well as my manufacturing experience.
This new test method looked at ways to measure airflow through a packed bed of large particle materials. With careful consideration to repeat-ability, I designed a test method that allowed our team to measure the back pressure created by a finite packed bed in a vertical wind tunnel. Working closely with a local fabrication shop, we created a safe and user friendly prototype seen in the video above.
After extensive testing and qualification, this test method's data was used in a historical Design of Experiment (DOE) to support our patent claims and is still being utilized for product claims today.
